On Thursday we did an afternoon of crafts. Today (Saturday) the table is still sticky, there’s glitter on the floor, but the fruits of our labour are proudly handing on the tree and on the playroom walls! Our Felt Christmas Trees featured in the beautiful Craft Advent hosted by Sadhbh over at Where Wishes Come From. While the glue and buttons of the felt trees stole the kid’s imaginations these twinkling lovelies are my absolute favourite.  Maybe I love them because fairy lights spark joy in my very soul or maybe it’s because these are the perfect mix of art and…

If you’re looking for a funky, quick and easy Christmas hats then look no further. These are fabulous. The Garter Ear Flap Hat from Purl Soho was definately my go-to pattern of the last year, I knocked up a plain black version using Alpaca yarn from my friends at Hushabye Farm for our other friend’s baby girl last year.  It was a really quirky pattern and a fast knit so I was delighted to give it a bit of a tweak and run up a stash of hats for a few friends and my own kids just in time for last…

1. A chocolate from the Advent calendar EVERY morning. Enough said. 2. My December housekeeping strategy has relied on putting everything off til ‘The Big Christmas Clean’. I mean why dust skirting boards in mid December when you’re only going to have to do them again before Christmas???  I now live in a dusty, cess pit. It’s Christmas Eve. I’m reaping what I have sewn – or not sewn, as the case may be. 3. I’ve been doing some ‘endurance training’ and now, for the first time in years, I stand a really good chance of consuming my recommended maximum units of alcohol this week….

This is my first Christmas decoration post of the year. It’s more than a little late in the season but I forgot I’d been so shoddy as I’ve been moonlighting over at The Nest where I contributed my Felt Garland Tutorials from last year and also these cool Paper Baubles to Emily’s wonderful Craft Advent. Anyway, if you’re in the market for an easy decoration here’s a nice Christmas Stocking that I’ve been tipping away at.  This is my sixth Christmas as a Mama, and my sixth Christmas feeling uncharastically guilty about the stocking situation (yes, you read correctly) in this house….

I really like Christmas but I think – maybe like a lot of people, I like the season more than the day. I like the run up to it all, the lights, the buzz in town, the excitement. I love talking to kids about it and seeing their excitement at Santa’s visit, or that little conspiratorial smile that hints that they ‘know’. I love catching up with friends, making excuses to see people I don’t see half enough of. I love the little flashes of kindness, the fund-raisers, the cake sales, the dips-in-the-nip. The times when people try a little harder to…

Round here we have a rule. There’s no talking about Christmas or Santa until there’s about a month to go. It’s not an exact date in the calendar. Let’s just say it wholly depends on when I find I really need the enticement that Santa and a large bag of pressies offers.  Safe to say, we have hit that point. The eldest two are well warned that if they talk about it too early, Santa wakes up with a headache and instantly puts them on a naughty list.  This year, being the first that we have a school-goer, is the first where we…
