Our house has gone serious 1980’s.  We’ve skipped the red lemonade, Wham bars and leg warmers and cut straight to the TV shows of my youth. We’ve officially gone retro with Netflix. First off the kid’s programmes. Like looking back at most things, there’s quite the gap between the cool and futuristic programmes of my youth and the hilariously garish reality thirty (really?) years later. He-Man – still rocks that unisex bob and is fighting the good fight to keep Eternia and Greyskull safe from Skeletor and his gang of slightly inept henchmen.  He still has not only the power but also both…

It’s the gap between Christmas and New Year’s. My husband is off helping his brother paint his new house. I am high on kilotonnes of sugar and overcome by the urgent desire to bin 92% of our household possessions. Setting aside all advice to opt for a lazy day I decide today is the day for a bit of multitasking: ‘having the fun’ and getting a few things off the ‘to do’ list. A dangerously ambitious list that includes such small things like: Dismantle the toddler bed Relocate secondhand Kura bed to the toddler’s room while pretending it is new Assemble one new large bunk bed for…

This is a review of the Polisport Junior Guppy seat – suitable for children weighing between 22 and 35 kilo. I’ve also reviewed the Polisport Guppy Mini Baby Seat suitable for children up to 15 kilos / 33 lbs in weight which you can read here.  The step-up to three kids brought with it a new car, new house, no pelvic floor and less cycling. With two toddlers we’d trekked around with one kid on each bike strapped into rear mounted seats but as they  got taller it was trickier to wedge them into the kiddie seats.  Then with three bambinos the balance tipped – literally,…

I love dashing across town, nipping in and out of traffic.  I love whizzing along the inside of a long line of traffic knowing I’ll get to where I’m going in no-time….

Some people (such as this wally) think that kids and weddings are oil and water and just don’t mix.  I don’t agree – though I do think they certainly increase the workload. Having brought babies to weddings a few times, last year we graduated into the big leagues when we went to a family wedding with our 6-month old, 3-year old and 5-year old.  Like any family occasion it was a mix of lovely and pure-awful. But we survived and even got to enjoy parts of it – albeit in a radically different way than in the pre-children days i.e….

I really like Christmas but I think – maybe like a lot of people, I like the season more than the day. I like the run up to it all, the lights, the buzz in town, the excitement. I love talking to kids about it and seeing their excitement at Santa’s visit, or that little conspiratorial smile that hints that they ‘know’. I love catching up with friends, making excuses to see people I don’t see half enough of. I love the little flashes of kindness, the fund-raisers, the cake sales, the dips-in-the-nip. The times when people try a little harder to…
