With two sleeps to go to Christmas morning I’ll never get my act together for any Pinterest style Christmas posts! As usual I never managed to work through an advent calendar – frankly I’m still patting myself on the back for turning three pillowcases and half a roll of tinfoil into one angel and one shepherd outfit.   But – if you’re looking for some last-minute handy (read: easy) ideas to make Christmas your own, here’s a few of our own little traditions that might work in your family. 1. Put up some homemade decorations We’ve made a stack of homemade…

On Thursday we did an afternoon of crafts. Today (Saturday) the table is still sticky, there’s glitter on the floor, but the fruits of our labour are proudly handing on the tree and on the playroom walls! Our Felt Christmas Trees featured in the beautiful Craft Advent hosted by Sadhbh over at Where Wishes Come From. While the glue and buttons of the felt trees stole the kid’s imaginations these twinkling lovelies are my absolute favourite.  Maybe I love them because fairy lights spark joy in my very soul or maybe it’s because these are the perfect mix of art and…

I have new crush. It’s funky, arty, original and from Belfast.   I am officially in love with all things ReFound. ReFound specialises in recycled, upcycled and industrial vintage everythings.  I’ve been mouching around their website – ReFound Online, and the place is amazing.  A mix between a gallery and a shop, ReFound sources classic, vintage and industrial style furniture and up-cycles and re-purposes pieces to produce one-off stylish furniture, lighting and accessories. As if they’re not cool enough, they also work with local artists and designers, to create one-of-a-kind functional artworks. The ReFound website is beautiful but equally I’ve promised myself…

If you’re looking for a funky, quick and easy Christmas hats then look no further. These are fabulous. The Garter Ear Flap Hat from Purl Soho was definately my go-to pattern of the last year, I knocked up a plain black version using Alpaca yarn from my friends at Hushabye Farm for our other friend’s baby girl last year.  It was a really quirky pattern and a fast knit so I was delighted to give it a bit of a tweak and run up a stash of hats for a few friends and my own kids just in time for last…

Although I’m woeful at posting updates, our community crafting group – the Fairview / Marino Knitting & Crochet Circle, is continuing to meet up twice a month in St. Joseph’s Primary School in Fairview.  The dates for meetings this side of Christmas are posted below and for easier updates I’ve set up a Facebook Group page – here. The group offers a lovely and informal setting for anyone and everyone to knit or crochet, learning from each other and generally having a laugh while eating cake! I organise the group on a voluntary basis so it costs €4 which covers…

I finished the lovely Goldie Collar from Purl Alpaca Designs (or a ‘neckwarmer’ as I prefer to call it – slightly less Fifty Shades and all that) before Christmas. Here’s the details on the pattern and materials used. Pattern: Goldie Collar from Pure Alpaca Designs (www.purlalpacadesigns.com). I had bought the pattern last year at the Knitting and Stitching Show in the RDS with a view to making it for Elizabeth down in Hushabye Farm using some of their own delicious  Alpaca wool. The pattern itself was pricey – €7.50, but as it was for the Alpaca farmer herself (and using her wool at…
