Our house has gone serious 1980’s.  We’ve skipped the red lemonade, Wham bars and leg warmers and cut straight to the TV shows of my youth. We’ve officially gone retro with Netflix. First off the kid’s programmes. Like looking back at most things, there’s quite the gap between the cool and futuristic programmes of my youth and the hilariously garish reality thirty (really?) years later. He-Man – still rocks that unisex bob and is fighting the good fight to keep Eternia and Greyskull safe from Skeletor and his gang of slightly inept henchmen.  He still has not only the power but also both…

My kids are nerds, being raised by nerds with a taste for all things nerdy. Their taste in music is no exception. Amidst the warbling of One Direction, Katy Perry and (gah) Justin Beiber their playlist also features Stevie Wonder and Kate Bush. They frequently lose it to Tina Turner’s Proud Mary and they were quite downbeat when David Bowie died. Literally people my work here is done.  You can understand so why I was chuffed at news that the latest Netflix offering – Beat Bugs, which launched in early August, and is loaded with hits but the very fabulous…

While himself has been away, I’ve been indulging in a whole host of Netflix programmes that he’d never partake in! Yay! I was on a bit of a documentary roll and gorged on the ever brilliant Louis Theroux back catalogue – with everything from alien hunting desert dwellers to religious zealots getting the quirky and charming Louis’ treatment. ‘Hot Girls Wanted’ may sound like I was really, really enjoying all this ‘lone time’ but I hate to burst any bubbles. It’s the well put together documentary by the very fabulous Rashida Jones on the amateur porn business in the States. Unsurprisingly it…

Oh Netflix how I miss you and all those programmes on demand The movies and the cartoons, always ready and on-hand. You were always there to mind the kids so I could do a wee And run around and do some jobs, and even make the tea. But without you during this cold July, it’s hard to get a rest From endless kiddie questions, and a house that’s always messed. The monsters miss Babar, Gadget, George and friends The questions about when you’ll return never bloody end. I miss my favourite House of Cards and those messed up biker Sons, What’s going on in Charming,…

This year the passing by of January has me conflicted. On the one hand that most horrible of months is over – yay, on the other the beginning of February marks my return to work – boo. Anyway January was a month of pyjamas and laziness for my nest-loving chicks. We’ve been busier packing boxes and playing with new heaps of Lego that watching telly but here’s a quick snapshot of what we’ve been oogling the January on Netflix. The big Netflix launch of the month was The Adventures of Puss in Boots. As with the last few launches the…

This month the kiddies have been staying retro and still enjoying Inspector Gadget. Car journeys have become actually enjoyable (my three are real car whingers) since they like to imagine that we are being followed by M.A.D. agents working for the evil Dr.Claw. Clearly, it’s anything for a quiet life round here.  They’ve also being going mad for The Smurfs (spot my influence once more!) and a new one called Oscar’s Oasis whichhas them falling around laughing. It’s a short non-verbal cartoon about a little lizard living in the desert, with lots of calamitous accidents and slapstick humour. I have to admit it’s very…
